nePlus’ OxygenOS is one of the main reasons behind the popularity of the company’s devices. It offers users a near-stock Android experience, while still offering plenty of customization options to choose from. And as such, the stock OnePlus Launcher available on OnePlus devices looks pretty minimal at first, but it does offer some key features to help users make the most out of their phones. The company keeps adding more new features with every update, with the launcher getting a new parking location service and a password protected hidden space in previous updates. Now, with the latest update, the company is bringing some more features to the launcher, including a new homescreen-only app layout.
When it comes to the launcher on any phone, the presence of an app drawer is what makes or breaks it for me. To be brutally honest, I despise launchers that don’t have an app drawer and make my phone’s homescreen look all cluttered. Which is why I’m thankful that OnePlus does offer users an app drawer on the OxygenOS launcher. However, there are a lot of users out there who prefer it the other way round, which is why OnePlus has now added that option to its launcher.
You can choose to set up a homescreen-only layout, which gets rid of the app drawer and places all of your installed apps on the home screen. The option can be found within the Launcher layout setting and OnePlus also pushes an update to alert users about the addition. Thankfully, the homescreen-only layout is an option, so if that is not your preference, you can stick with the homescreen plus app drawer layout.
On top of that, the update also adds a new step counter in the Shelf which works pretty much as you’d expect. It makes use of your phone’s sensors to count the number of steps you take in a day and the distance you travel on foot. There isn’t much to it, but it sure is a welcome addition.
As of now, the latest update isn’t live on the Play Store and we have no information from the company regarding the rollout. However, since it has started appearing on a few OnePlus devices, it won’t be long before the update lands on your phone.
